One of the best ways to communicate your position on legislation is via the Request to Speak (RTS) system. RTS comments are transmitted to each legislator and become part of the record for each bill. Please note that while the name “Request to Speak” suggests otherwise, using the RTS system does not mean you actually have to speak in support or opposition for a bill in committee hearing or attend the hearing (although, you may, if you would like). The system is designed to collect public input electronically, so that all can provide support or opposition to bills – regardless of whether they are physically at the State Capitol or not.

On April 5, 2025, we mobilized to stop the MAGA assault on our country and Constitution. Across the nation and here in Apache County at Window Rock we took to the streets on a cold, snowy day to defend our freedoms, our rights, and our future. When those in power try to silence us, we rise louder. When they attack our communities, we fight back—together.
On March 28, we walked in Window Rock to protest the massive funding cuts in programs essential to Apache County and to all Americans.
For Indian Country, Federal Cuts Decimate Core Tribal Programs by Alex Brown, Stateline, March 4, 2025
President Trump's sweeping cuts to the federal workforce and government spending have reverberated across Indian Country, leaving tribes with deep uncertainty about their health clinics, schools, police agencies, and wildfire crews.
TRUMP BUDGET CUTS CAUSE REAL HARM TO TRIBAL COMMUNITIES INDIAN COUNTRY TODAY, FEBRUARY 25
WASHINGTON — Nearly 100 tribal leaders or representatives are testifying in appropriations hearings for three consecutive days to share their worries over federal funding for tribal programs and to air their concerns of the Trump administration’s policies in the last few weeks. The three hearings are to help inform congressional members of the needs and priorities of tribal nations for the 2025 and 2026 fiscal years, U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree of Maine said Tuesday, Feb. 25, the first day of the hearings. The subcommittee heard from about 40 tribal leaders on Tuesday, who identified Medicaid funding, health and mental health programs and public safety as key issues that rely on federal funds.

APACHE COUNTY DEMS WINTER CLOTHING GIVEAWAY IN TEEC NOS POS
More than 70 Teec Nos Pos (TNP) community members visited our Apache County (ACD) Democrats Clothing Giveaway at TNP Chapter facilities on Friday, January 24. They took home approximately 90 items of clothing provided by St. Johns area community member Sandee Mac as well as games and toys provided by the Teec Nos Pos Chapter. ACD First Vice Chair Priscilla Weaver organized and facilitated the event, and ACD member Tim Rooney helped Sandee cram her bundles and bags of clothes into her Subaru to drive to Teec Nos Pos. We were set up in the chapter house by ten, and already there was a line of people waiting to shop around. Most touching were the grandparents scouring our piles for winter coats to fit their grandchildren. By 2:30 pm we were exhausted and were packing up the remainder of the clothing and putting away tables and chairs, when a couple straggled in, so our donor went back through the bags jammed into her car and found a couple of nice blankets and coats for the man and his wife. He thanked us saying that when he was a child, his family was so desperate for clothing they had to travel to the Cortez, CO, landfill (!) looking for clothes. It was a good feeling all the way around.
WHY SOME NATIVE AMERICAN CITIZENS WORRY ABOUT GETTING CAUGHT IN ICE'S NET USA TODAY FEB. 25, 2025
Some Native Americans now carry extra identification, worried they could get caught up in ICE raids.
Priscilla Weaver packed for her six-hour drive to Phoenix bringing along her U.S. passport and other forms ofidentification, including one showing she's a Navajo Nation citizen.
She said with her dark hair and brown skin she is sometimes mistaken for a member of another group and with the Trump administration’s push to deport millions of immigrants here illegally, she and some other Native Americans fear they could be wrongly stopped and questioned.
“You can’t take a chance on that. I was nervous about it,” said Weaver, 65, of Teec Nos Pos, Arizona. “We’re feeling the stress. It’s scary.”
Family and friends, she said, send texts warning each other to carry identification, including some showing they belong to a tribal community.
"Priscilla Weaver, a volunteer and Chair of the Apache County Democrats from Teec Nos Pos, Arizona, held up an Apache County General Election Poll Workers training manual, stating,"It's all in here. If we have any questions, this is what we refer to."
"Voters shared testimony that painted a picture of a chaotic and poorly executed election day that disenfranchised many Navajo voters in Apache County."
